Oh my gosh. I've read that story and this is just... this is so perfect for it. You totally nailed the mood while still using a rocking bright color palette - I mean that's something. I love this, it's brilliant.
This was my favorite of yours that I saw. You convey the story in amazing detail...in the sort of way that even a person who has never read it can still get the basis of what the characters are feeling and what situations are occurring.
I remember this story and "A Good Man Is Hard to Find." You pretty much nailed Pointer's sinister nature too. Man, that guy!
I remember reading this in high school and having to write a report...instead I drew a 1 page comic-report which was basicly: "Yeah you have a handicap people fetish, Mr. Bible Salesman...but I have weirdier interests." got a A on it.
never heard of the author, but a quick Google of her, she's known for "Southern Gothic" and "grotesque" .. hm, yesterday (or your today)'s the anniversary of her death. The effect you've created is most suitably creepy and ominous - the shadows/poses/expressions, and yet mundane in your meticulous details.
